Business Unit President

Our client is a leading provider of software to select vertical markets.  They acquire, manage, and build industry specific software businesses.  They are growth operators passionate about serving customers, building great products, and leading with innovation. They are data-driven growth experts who partner with great leadership teams to take good businesses further, faster.  Their strategy is to combine great software businesses via acquisition with functional specialists in marketing, sales operations, and product to empower companies to achieve 3-5x growth while remaining profitable. They have the people and process to help unlock growth and build lasting value. Central to this mission is their ability to add operational leaders into their software businesses to ensure alignment and execution.     

Their strategy is distinct in the way they are organized and how they approach value creation.  Our client acquires B2B SaaS (software as a service) companies ranging from $3-10M in revenue.  When a company joins the portfolio, it becomes a Business Unit, keeping product, team, and commitment to its customers intact as a unique brand. 

The President role is a P&L owner for a business unit. This individual owns strategy, growth initiatives, and ensuring scalable, efficient operations. The President partners with the corporate operations team to bring best practice into the business in areas like pricing and packaging, product strategy, go to market, and customer success.  Presidents are growth-oriented leaders with passion for serving customers, developing people and have keen interest in achieving sustainable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Within the Business Unit
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive growth strategy that aligns with the BU’s long-term mission and vision
    • Lead execution of the growth strategy, with disciplined focus on both growth and profitability so that the budget is achieved
    • Lead product and engineering teams to build and execute roadmap
    • Drive revenue growth by executing go-to-market strategies
    • Work across functions to develop leaders and support operation to scale
    • Help define product strategy, target market, and unique value proposition
    • Develop retention strategies through analyzing customer data, finding patterns, and proactively engaging customers to address needs
    • Forecast revenue and expenses with accuracy and consistency to increase visibility and predictability which supports further investment decisions
    • Track and analyze performance against benchmark KPIs to identify trends, variances, and areas for investment or improvement
    • Invest in the development of people, our typical BU has 20 employees, with focus on Customer Success, Product/Eng, Sales, and Service
    • Build and enhance company culture and values
  • Within Corporate Company
    • Lead monthly operating review on key performance indicators
    • Partner with Finance team to ensure EBITDA targets are attained
    • Partner with operations team to improve the
    • Share learnings and practices with Presidents across portfolio

Requirements

  • 10+ years’ experience in SaaS with prior P&L ownership exceeding $5M revenue
  • Proven people leader with ability to manage through change while demonstrating a high level of EQ
  • Disciplined, analytical approach to product management and go-to-market strategy and execution
  • Experience leading a Product and Engineering team
  • Proven experience in SaaS sales and marketing leadership
  • Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
